Keeping our economy in full swing!

One thing you don’t have to point out to local businesses is the fact that Greater Scranton/Lackawanna County is bustling with economic development activity. Over the years, the area has triumphed over adversity and successfully reshaped its image. A great deal of credit must go to the tireless efforts of a Chamber of Commerce development team that has made many important business and community projects possible.

Today, Scranton is home to a $100 million downtown shopping mall, a $24 million baseball stadium, a $70 million national park, golf courses, ski resorts, technology parks and corporate campuses.

And you better grab your shades because the future looks even brighter.

The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber can trace its roots all the way back to 1867 when 13 people met upstairs over the G.A. & I.F. Fuller grocery in Scranton, Pennsylvania to form a Merchants Association. Their goal was to encourage the economic growth of the city. Over the years the organization evolved into The Scranton Board of Trade and then eventually The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce - all the while developing innovative ways to keep Scranton's economy moving forward.

The Chamber family of organizations has a rich history of responsiveness to community needs. The Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Company (SLIBCO), the Chamber’s construction arm, has developed 2,700 acres of land that includes industrial, office, and technology parks. SLIBCO and The Scranton Plan, the Chamber’s industrial marketing division, have completed more than 300 projects that have created close to 25,000 jobs in Lackawanna County.
