Pike County is nestled in the Northeast Corner of Pennsylvania bordering New York and New Jersey. Covering 542 square miles, the region includes elevations varying from 2115 feet above sea level in the west to 320 feet by the Delaware River on the east.

Pike County is 40 miles east of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Corridor - 1.5 hours from New York City and 2 hours from Philadelphia.

Life As It Should Be…

Ask most residents of Pike County what they'd like to change about their county and you're likely to receive a blank stare and a whole lot of silence. After all, you know the old saying: "If it ain't broke…"

The fact is, our residents enjoy the 11th-lowest crime rate in the nation, fair wages and housing costs that are substantially below those found in metropolitan areas. Add to this a wide-range of recreational outlets, a bustling family tourist industry, exceptional education and healthcare and you have the type of lifestyle many city-dwellers can only dream of.

Recreation

Pike County is internationally known for its resort and family-oriented recreational facilities from hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping to horseback riding, whitewater rafting golfing, boating and water and snow skiing.

Soon it will add another attraction to the list: The Mountain Laurel Center for the Performing Arts.

Those who thirst for world-class performing artists will be thrilled by The Mountain Laurel Center for the Performing Arts. Owned and sponsored by the Pike County Industrial and Commercial Development Authority, and operated by Mountain Laurel, Inc., the center promises to be a showcase where diverse artists and audiences are brought together to experience the finest in music, dance and theater.

The center is located on a pastoral 700-acre property with an 85-acre lake as its centerpiece. It will provide seating for thousands of patrons.

Other recreation and cultural activities include:

Cliff Park Inn
Cliff Park Golf Course has rolling hills, wide fairways and very fast greens. The course is a challenge to experienced golfers, while not too intimidating to the novice.

Riverview Inn
Features monthly day festivals from March until November. Local liveries pickup and drop off here for rafting excursions.

Sunflower Hill Productions Inc.
The historic Milford Theatre is the home venue of Sunflower Hill Productions which presents professional productions of musicals, plays, new play readings and children's events in addition to arts courses, chamber music, and films.

Lake Wallenpaupack
Built in 1926 for hydroelectric power, this massive lake measures 13.5 miles long with 52 miles of shoreline. The lake includes six recreation areas featuring hundreds of acres of forest lands, wildlife, walking trails, campsites and boat slips. When it comes to boating and water activities, this popular body of water has few equals.

  • Eagle watching along the Delaware River in Lackawaxen
  • George Childs Park in Dingmans Ferry with its beautiful year-round waterfalls
  • Pocono Environmental Education Center with its Nature Weekends
  • Roebling Bridge, the predecessor to the Brooklyn Bridge
  • Antique and collectibles, along with finer crafts and craftsmen, can be found throughout our county.
  • Wonderful restaurants, hotels, resorts, and Bed n' Breakfasts.

Pike County Industrial Development Corporation (PIDCO)

There's no greater resource when it comes to helping local companies than the Pike County Industrial Development Corporation (PIDCO). This organization can offer companies that wish to relocate or expand here a prepared business park land, aggressive financing programs for the purchase, construction or reconstruction of land and buildings (at interest rates as low as 3%), purchase of new or reconditioned equipment and a myriad of additional programs that are just too numerous to list!
PIDCO is a certified lender for the Small Business Administration's Minority & Women's Pre-Qualification Loans. An application can be sent to you by contacting the PIDCO office and giving some basic information. This program is primarily useful for those who could not get a regular commercial loan. Eligible applicants include women, minorities, veterans and those locating in rural areas.

Easy access to many transportation systems make Pike County an attractive area, not only for residents but for businesses too.

Airports
Pike county is close to two major airports:

  • Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport - 50 min.
  • Lehigh Valley International International Airport - 1.5 hrs.

Highways
Pike County is served by Interstate 84, which runs east-west through the center of the county. Routes 6, 209, 402, 434, 507, 590, and 739, all of which connect with I-84 are also important.
