The Covington Industrial Park has landed its second tenant.
Caterpillar Logistics Services will open a 252,000-square-foot distribution facility in Lackawanna County, near Scranton. The opening is planned for March 2004 and the facility will stock only Mazda car parts.
"It's fantastic," said company representative Rusty Dunn. "Ultimately, we'll be employing 30 to 40 warehouse employees and warehouse folks."
UPS and Federal Express will be the main carriers delivering inventory from the facility to Mazda dealers.
A branch of the construction company Caterpillar, Inc., Caterpillar Logistics specializes in third-party management of automotive supply chains. This particular facility will supply Mazda parts all over the East Coast and Canada.
The facility is located on Keystone Opportunity Zone land, which is free from many local, county and state taxes until 2011.
The Norwood Co. is clearing the ground for the site.
The Convington Industrial Park can house up to 10 separate manufacturing or distribution facilities. The other current tenant is Maytag.
The industrial park is developed by First Industrial Development Services, a division of First Industrial Realty Trust, the nation's largest provider of diversified real estate.
