Earth Conservancy Program Wins Award

03.18.2019

Ashley, Luzerne County, PA - A work training program organized by Earth Conservancy is one of the winners of the 2019 Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence.

The Department of Environmental Protection recognized the Ashley-based agency and 16 other entities across the state, as well as a Chester County man.

The Earth Conservancy's Environmental Workforce Training Program gives free training to people who are unemployed or underemployed to help them to enter an environmentally-oriented career in the Wyoming Valley.

Upon graduation, participants will have skills and certificates that can lead to careers in engineering, construction, environmental cleanup and more.

The program creates self-sustaining employment and economic empowerment, meet local companies' need for skilled employees, helps to restore brownfield sites and raises awareness of the environmental challenges related to abandoned mines after the collapse of the anthracite coal industry, the DEP press release said.

Earth Conservancy has offered the program for at least the past two years. The application period for the 2019 program is closed, but interested people can call 570-823-3445 with questions.
