Gowforge Laser Cutting Workshops
Workshop Description: Learn beginning and intermediate skills on the Glowforge Laser cutting machine. Work on your own project hands-on with one-on- one instruction.

Age restriction: Good for ages 13 and up. Underage people must be accompanied by an adult for the entire session.
About Your Instructor: Lisa Glover is a designer with a background in Engineering, Architecture and Fine Art. She has run 3 successful Kickstarter campaigns, created STEAM curricula for several summer camps, and is now helping millions of kids become makers through her work at Highlights for Children. Her passion is merging technology with craft to design creations that inspire kids of all ages.


Build Your Own Portable USB Solar Charger Workshops
Workshop Description: Learn how to build a solar powered charging station for your cell phone and other devices. The workshop gives the participant an understanding of all the components required to produce a portable USB power source and storage device. Knowledge of middle school math is required. On completion of the workshop, the student will be able to:


  • Understand how to hook up a simple Solar Cell

  • Understand how to construct fused Lithium Ion Battery Pack (Tesla approach)

  • Understand Li-Ion Battery Ratings

  • Understand concept on Maximum Power Point for Solar Cell and a module used to gain it.

  • Understand Battery Ratings

  • Solder electronic modules

About Your Instructor: Anthony Komar is an experienced Electronic, Software and Systems Engineer with experience that includes delivering training material at GE, Ford, CAT, Bombardier, and Visteon. Mr. Komar has served as leader in local Scout organization.


3D Printing with James Harmon from Keystone College
October 3, 10, 17 & 24th
Work one-on-one with James Harmon, Director of the 3D Print Center at Keystone College for a hands-on bring in your design and he'll help you make it class in four consecutive sessions.

About Your Instructor: James Harmon has been teaching 3D design for many years teaching computer aided animation and software instruction at Parson's School of Design and the New School, and Hands on Design at Lehigh University. James works with engineering students on fabrication of projects and idea assignments and is an avid follower of the “Maker Movement.” James is currently Director of the 3D Print Center, at Keystone College. Where he works with many software platforms, runs the 3D Print Center of excellence.

About Your Instructor: Mikki Uzupes spent 25 years as a professional journalist in the region, first at The News Eagle, where she held multiple positions including managing editor, and then as news director for the local Bold Gold Media radio stations. She has received an award from the PA Newspaper Association for beat reporting and an Excellence Award from the PA Association of Broadcasters. She earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Communications from Point Park University, Pittsburgh, and has been serving as Digital Media Specialist for Wayne County since 2017.

An entrepreneurial mindset is a specific set of beliefs, knowledge, and thought processes that drives entrepreneurial behavior. In this seminar learn how an entrepreneurial mindset can be developed and enhanced through entrepreneurial experiences.

About Your Instructor: Susan Shaffer is Director of The Stourbridge Project.. As Director of The Stourbridge Project, she is working with entrepreneurs to establish and grow innovation, business and job opportunities in Wayne County. She is a native of Northeastern Pennsylvania and a graduate of Wallenpaupack Area HS, Marywood University and Lehigh University. In addition, she recently completed the national certification training to be a facilitator in developing an entrepreneurial mindset.

About Your Instructor: Scott Mowry graduated with a degree in Illustration from Pratt Institute and has been a creative professional/team leader in digital product development, web design, e-commerce, and advertising/promotion throughout his career. He was Design Director of Interactive Content at Highlights for Children for 15 years before working as Creative VP for Buyseasons, an internet specialty e-retailer in Milwaukee, WI. In December of 2017, Scott started Maptown Project, a specialty advertising and promotion firm located in Honesdale and Hawley, PA.


October 16, 5:30-7:00 pm: Business Planning for Startups by SCORE
This seminar will detail the following information, all of which should be covered in any business' beginning stages: General Company Description, Products and Services, Marketing Plan, Operational Plan, Management and Organization, Personal Financial Statement, Startup Expenses and Capitalization Financial Plan. Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs.

About Your Instructor: Charlie Schaefer, SCORE Mentor: Charlie has been a SCORE volunteer the last two years and has helped numerous clients with starting a business and support on business planning for ongoing businesses. Charlie's professional career spans four decades primarily serving the insurance industry where he worked as a system engineer on multiple insurance systems, project manager for insurance system development, business operations, data center manager, and most recently as a management consultant to the insurance industry. Charlie has completed over 35 management consulting engagements for Life and Property and Casualty (P&C) companies ranging in size from the smallest P&C Mutual insurance company to the largest Life and P&C companies. These engagements went from a functional area in a company to an enterprise business and technology plan. Charlie served as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the 101st Airborne Division, US Army and received his Bachelor of Science and Master's degrees from Rutgers, The State University, New Brunswick, NJ.


October 17, 6:00-7:30 pm: Closing Across the Table: The Art of Negotiating with Dr. Jason Engerman
This seminar will cover the art of negotiating from the perspective of the small business owner and customer. We will discuss strategies to closing deals with prospective clients, bosses, or even winning over your employees. The content covered in this information session can be geared towards small business owners, seasoned or emerging entrepreneurs. By viewing these perspectives individually and cohesively the participants will be able to understand why previous strategies may have failed, become aware of successful approaches to negotiating and develop new strategies for achieving desired outcomes.

About Your Instructor: Dr. Jason A. Engerman is an award-winning and internationally requested scholar. His scholarly work focuses at the intersection of underrepresented populations and interactive media. Dr. Engerman investigates the ways in which youth leverage interactive medias, such as video games, to navigate the world around them and create new realities for prosocial engagement. As an entrepreneur, Dr. Engerman serves as Senior Vice President of the National Athletic and Professional Success Academy (NAPSA). NAPSA seeks to be the premier organization for provide professional success solutions for professional athletes after playing days. Across these scholarly and entrepreneurial identities, Dr. Engerman strives to provide effective value-add solutions to issues surrounding education reform and equitable career development for all.
