Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA -
Geisinger purchased the former Ice Box complex at 3 W. Olive St. for $23 million and plans to expand operations there.
A deed recorded Monday shows Geisinger's Community Medical Center acquired two parcels housing the multitenant complex from BRT Ice L.P., a limited partnership, and BRT Ice Inc., its sole general partner.
Geisinger has a pronounced presence in the complex, including a Geisinger multispecialty clinic, a Geisinger ConvenientCare clinic, Geisinger laboratory services, physical and occupational therapy services, a Geisinger Fresh Food Farmacy and other Geisinger services and operations.
The health system announced late last month that Geisinger Women's Health had moved all of its women's services in Lackawanna County — including obstetrics and gynecology, urogynecology and maternal-fetal medicine — under one roof at the 3 W. Olive St. facility.
"We already provide a number of services on West Olive Street, and as part of our holistic long-term plans to optimize Geisinger Community Medical Center and offer a comprehensive spectrum of outpatient services in Lackawanna County, it made sense to invest in ownership at this location," Geisinger said in a statement. "There is vacant space we plan to use for expansion, and we are in the process of exploring which programs will best serve our community at this location."
The complex also houses an American Red Cross Blood Donation Center, Boyle Eye Specialists, Scranton Running Co., military recruiting offices and other lessees.
Geisinger's statement addressed the current tenants.
"We will honor all existing leases, and we intend to continue our relationships with the tenants, many of whom, like Scranton Running Company and others, complement our mission to make better health easier in the communities we serve," the statement reads.
