Governor Tom Wolf Announces New Jobs with American Paper Bag Company

Harrisburg, PA - Governor Tom Wolf announced that American Paper Bag LLC (APB), a manufacturer of retail paper bags, will be settling a corporate headquarters and production facility in Sugar Notch Borough, Luzerne County, PA. This establishment will create 38 new jobs for the area.

said Governor Wolf. “I am pleased to make the announcement that American Paper Bag is moving to the commonwealth, and I wish them continued success as part of our well establish manufacturing industry.”

American Paper Bag will base its first corporate headquarters and production facility at a 42,000-square-foot existing establishment in Hanover Industrial Estates. APB is investing $5,425,000 million in the project, with spending focused specifically in proprietary machining technology. The company has also committed the creation of 38 new, full-time jobs within the initial three years and will begin this hiring in April 2017.

“Having researched sites across the U.S .and after lengthy discussions with both the Governor's Action Team and The Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber the decision was straightforward,” said Ian Robson, CEO, American Paper Bag. “The support from all sides we have received was head and shoulders above anything else and we look forward to a long future of sustainable manufacturing in Pennsylvania.”

The Department of Community and Economic Development additionally awarded APB funding of $38,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits to be distributed upon creation of the new jobs and $19,550 in WEDnetPA funding for employee training. American Paper Bag was also encouraged to and has since applied for a $1.4 million low-interest loan through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA).

The proposal was coordinated by DCED's Office of International Business Development along with the Governor's Action Team, a group of accomplished economic development professionals who report directly to the governor and work with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania, in collaboration with the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber.
