Hanovert Twp., PA - Governor Tom Wolf announced that Core-Mark Holding International, a distributor of packaged goods, will expand their operations in Hanover Township, Luzerne County. This expansion will create 25 new jobs for the area.

“The region's dedicated workforce and prime location, along the Interstate 80 and 81 corridors, are among the key attributes of the commonwealth that will contribute to the company's success in Pennsylvania.” - Governor Tom Wolf

Core-Mark is expanding by leasing a 155,000-square-foot site at 213 Great Valley Blvd., in the Hanover Crossings Business Park from Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services to accommodate the company's growth. Core-Mark is also investing $12 million in the project, which included infrastructure improvements and the installation of a commercial refrigeration unit. The company has pledged to create 25 new, full-time jobs over the next three years and to maintain 381 existing positions.

Mericle has begun constructing the building and the company will begin hiring new employees during the first quarter of 2017. The company also will maintain its current operations at 100 West End Road in Hanover Township.

“We are excited to expand our operations in Hanover Township and provide new jobs to a community that has historically shared our values and work ethics,” said Bill Stein, Core-Mark senior vice president. “This expansion will allow us to better serve our existing customers and support our continued market expansion.”

Core-Mark received a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development that includes $50,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits to be used for the creation of new jobs and $11,250 in WEDnetPA funding for employee training.

The project was organized by the Governor's Action Team, an experienced group of economic development professionals who report directly to the governor and work with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania, in collaboration with the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce.

“We are thrilled to see Core-Mark reinvest and expand operations in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Joseph Boylan, vice president of economic development, Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce. “This announcement represents yet another example of the positive economic impact that our local and state entities can have when working together for the greater good of the region. Congratulations and thank you to Core-Mark for making Northeastern Pennsylvania such a great place to live, work, and play.”

Mericle Commercial Real Estate Vice President, Jim Hilsher coordinated the lease transaction along with the real estate brokerage firms of Penn's Northeast partner NAI Mertz.

Hilsher said the project is being constructed on a “fast-track basis. We were given a very tight deadline to get the building constructed and customized to Core-Mark's exact needs,” Hilsher said.

Mericle has room to construct three additional buildings in the Hanover Crossings Business Park, Hilsher said.
