A wholesale distributor of heating and air conditioning equipment will be the third tenant to join the fledgling CenterPoint Commerce and Trade Park in the Pittston area.
Lyon, Conklin and Co. Inc., based in Baltimore, will occupy a 30,000-square-foot building in Jenkins Township in the park developed by Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services.
The facility will supply professional contractors and will open in early February, though no specific date is set yet, said Lisa Mask, spokeswoman for Lyon, Conklin owner Ferguson Enterprises Inc., which is a division of British-based Wolsely PLC. About 10 sales and warehousing jobs will be created, she said.
Ferguson, based in Newport News, Va., is a distributor of plumbing supplies and heating and cooling equipment.
Lyon, Conklin agreed to a five-year lease on the building, which Mericle built on speculation, said Bill Jones, Mericle's vice president of business development.
In the CenterPoint park Lyon, Conklin joins an 80,000-square-foot FedEx package distribution facility with about 90 full- and part-time jobs that opened last fall, and a men's warehouse cleaning, distribution and tailoring facility in a 300,000-square-foot building expected to create more than 200 jobs.
Mericle, based in Wilkes-Barre, expects commitments from additional tenants within months, Jones said, adding, “We have a pretty aggressive speculative plan here for new construction.”
The local operation will be a satellite of a Lyon, Conklin distribution facility in North Wales, Montgomery County, Mask said.
Rosemary Dessoye, executive vice president of the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce, said the developments at CenterPoint are helped by the area's central location in the metropolitan area.
“We can pull from a labor pool from Carbondale to Hazleton,” Dessoye said. “Certainly, for the whole region, this is a boost."
