McLane Company, Inc., the nation's leading wholesale distributor of food and consumer packaged goods has announced it selection of Valley View Business Park, Jessup, PA as the site of its newest regional distribution center.
McLane will construct a 400,000 square foot food distribution facility on 59 acres of land purchased from the Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Company (SLIBCO). The facility will service McLane's expanding customer base in the upper Mid-Atlantic region. The Jessup facility will initially employ 350 with future projections of 500. Construction is expected to be complete by the second quarter 2008.
“The growth of our business has created an opportunity for us to expand our operations geographically and enhance McLane's superior customer service,” said Mike Youngblood, President of McLane Grocery Distribution. “We selected Jessup after a comprehensive search that included the consideration of multiple sites in the region. Local, county and state officials responded very positively to McLane locating in Jessup, which has a proven infrastructure for distribution facilities and allows excellent proximity to our growing customer base in the Mid-Atlantic region,” he added. “We are committed to superior service and to the success of our customers, and the addition of the new facility in Jessup will contribute to that success.”
The Scranton Plan in conjunction with SLIBCO and the Lackawanna Industrial Fund Enterprises (LIFE), the economic development arms of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce welcome McLane to the Valley View Business Park and greater Scranton's business community. “This project would not be possible without support of Governor Edward Rendell and the Governor's Action Team, Senator Robert Mellow, Lackawanna County Commissioners, Jessup Borough, Valley View School District, PennDOT, Lackawanna County Soil Conservation District, DEP and Penn's Northeast,” said Austin J. Burke, president of the Chamber. “Their unwavering support of the development of Valley View Business Park is greatly appreciated. The success of the park is an outstanding example of what can be accomplished when all levels of government work together.”
Mr. Burke also stated, “The Governor's Economic Stimulus Program was critical for this project. The Commonwealth Financing Authority and the Business in Our Sites program provided valuable funding for the project. We also appreciate the teamwork of team McLane and the Jessup Borough, Lackawanna County Commissioners, and the Valley View School board for approving Keystone Opportunity Zone status for the park.”
