Mount Airy Casino Resort, Pennsylvania's first AAA Four Diamond casino resort, officially unveiled their $40 million expansion at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, May 3, 2019.
The expansion includes a new 20,000-square-foot convention center and ballroom to serve as a state-of-the-art venue for private and corporate events, weddings and entertainment. In addition, accommodations include 100 new guest rooms, including nine new executive suites, increasing the number of available rooms by over 50 percent to nearly 300.
“This latest expansion represents the demand for top-notch event space and more overnight accommodations and is a bold reflection of our commitment to keep raising the bar of our resort's customer-focused luxury brand.” DeNaples said.
“We used contemporary, earthy colors of autumn and patterns from the local rustic surroundings,” DeNaples said. “I've been on the construction site every step of the way, helping to manage the project and get every detail right.”
The 16,000 square-foot meeting and event space can be divided into six rooms and for just about any event- such as a wedding or concert. The entire space can accommodate 750 seated guests or 1,200 attendees for events, allowing for organizations such as the Sherman Theater, who hosts its Summer Stage at Mount Airy, an indoor option for putting on a show.
The expansion was designed by the Friedmutter Group, known for their work at the Cosmopolitan resort in Las Vegas, who was challenged to design a contemporary space that embodied the beauty of the surrounding Pocono Mountains with a clean, luxury feel. To achieve this, the designers took an “earthy elegance” approach, uplifted by a nearly 30-foot-long hand-forged steel and glass ribbon chandelier. The custom fixture, designed by a California-based designer, stands as the centerpiece of the event space's center lobby and the light reflecting from the ribbons represent the twilight sun dancing over the mountains.
“I strongly believe that this convention center is one of the most unique and luxurious event spaces between here and New York City. We have everything onsite to give guests the complete resort experience.” said DeNaples.
Senator Mario Scavello was also on hand for Friday's ribbon cutting ceremony.
“This is now a first class operation and it's going to be a magnet for tourism in our area,” Scavello said. “The Pocono Mountains have come a long way from having so few convention center locations to now having this available at Mount Airy. The views from here are breathtaking and what they've done here is all top of the line.”
Scavello said the Pocono Mountains tourism numbers are third in the state and among the top ten in the country. “People want to come here, to our water parks, indoor and outdoor, our casinos and now the Ripley's Aquarium is coming soon too,” said Scavello. “And all the new jobs that are created are so great for our area, driving up the average wage.”
“Our state revenues will be over $1 billion more than projected because of things like this, because of what is going on here in the Pocono Mountains,” Scavello said. “Just the sales tax alone from the three water parks in our area, has brought in over $35 million per year.
