Northeastern Pennsylvania -
The Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance was awarded $1 million to provide grants to businesses, Gov. Tom Wolf announced Tuesday.
Funds will be used to provide grants of up to $50,000 for small businesses and up to $15,000 for microenterprises severely impacted due to COVID-19. A news release from Wolf estimated that 75 jobs will be created or retained through the funding.
NEPA Alliance serves Luzerne, Lackawanna, Carbon, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill, and Wayne counties.
Wolf also announced Pittston was awarded $300,000 to address housing rehabilitation needs.
According to Wolf’s news release, homes for income-qualifying, elderly and disabled people and people with health-related issues will be rehabilitated to prevent congregate living. Additional funds were requested due to an influx of eligible applicants for housing assistance.
In all, Wolf announced nearly $45 million in new Community Development Block Grant funding from the CARES Act was awarded to support community improvements.
“This funding will allow communities to make a variety of infrastructure updates,” Wolf said. “Whether it be water and sewage systems, parks, or social services, these dollars are going to help make communities better places to live, work, and play.”
