NEPA Alliance helps award loans to Sutphen East for new jobs in Wayne County

Sterling Twp., PA - NEPA Alliance partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to award funds totaling $225,000 as a Rural Development loan through their joint Intermediary Relending Program (IRP) to the Sutphen East Corporation.

NEPA Alliance released a press release that stated the funds will go toward “the purchase of land & building in the Sterling Business & Technology Park, Sterling Township, Wayne County. These assets will allow for the creation of ten new jobs and an additional forty employment opportunities to be preserved in the area.

Sutphen East Corporation was found in White Lake, Sullivan Country, New York and has been a manufacturing operation since 1989. The company is currently overseen by Julia Sutphen Phelps. Sutphen East is responsible for the production of quality fire rescue vehicles used by multiple fire companies in the area.

NEPA Alliance's press release stated that Sutphen East's primary products are pumper and tankers that are built “based on customer specifications and needs.”

Sutphen's own mission statement reads,
“At Sutphen, our mission is to build the safest, most reliable, fire apparatus in the World, through innovation and customer focus.”

Dave Nat and Jeffrey Box, representatives from NEPA Alliance, and Jason Cali, representing USDA Rural Development, presented the funds to Sutphen East's representative, Darryl Rhyne.

The event also included state representatives, county commissioners, the Wayne Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO) and other local business developers who helped get this project off the ground.

Executive Director of WEDCO, Mary Beth Wood, stated that the funding process began last April when Sutphen East closed on the property in the industrial park with the promise of fostering employment in Wayne County.

Wood specified that this was fortunate because Sutphen is the first of what will hopefully be many more new businesses into the park. WEDCO stepped in to help connect Sutphen East with low-interest financing which they found through the USDA loan.

"It's a great partnership all around," said Wood, "from federal, to regional, to local."
