DARTdrones founder Abby Speicher will appear on the hit ABC television show “Shark Tank” tonight at 9pm. Founded and based out of the Tek Ridge Center in Jessup Pennsylvania, DARTdrones is the national leader in drone training, consultation, and expert support for new drone pilots.
Abby will pitch to the panel of five Sharks on the business. She'll need to convince the Sharks that the company is worthy of a Shark investment. A good business plan, good financials, and sales data will impress the Sharks.
Corporations such as Amazon and Google have been investing in using drones as part of their operations. Scranton police are the latest client of DARTdrones. "We train police departments, fire departments, businesses. We get a lot of individuals who are hobbyists or recreational users. We're focused on just getting people implemented with their drones and using them the right way," explained Abby Speicher.
Classes by DARTdrones focus on how to fly, test preparation, starting a drone based business, aerial photography, emergency services and more. People can take classes in person all across the USA and online. New FAA regulations require pilots to pass a 60 question test to become a certified commercial drone pilot.
DARTdrones began in Northeast Pennsylvania, at Marywood University's Aviation Program by Professor Chris Speicher, father of Abby. The Speichers entered the TecBridge Business Plan Competition, introduced by TecBridge, a Northeast Pennsylvania organization that seeks to grow technology entrepreneurship. DARTdrones won First place in the 2014 Business Plan Competition and used the winnings to further develop the company.
Today the company has a base team in Scranton, PA and drone training courses throughout the United States. DARTdrones currently has 42 flight instructors in multiple states to assist in drone training with classes online and in-person.
