Northeastern Pennsylvania Projects Aid State in Receiving Area Developments Silver Shovel Award

Area Development's annual Gold and Silver Shovel Awards recognize states for their achievements in attracting high-value investment projects that will create a significant number of new jobs in their communities. They have honored 21 states for their wins in job creation and business investment and Pennsylvania has been awarded a Silver Shovel!

The work of economic development is a complicated mix of salesmanship, customer service, technical and legal expertise, communications, relationship-building, and a healthy dose of good fortune.

Several economic development projects in Pennsylvania, including Northeastern PA's Amazon Fulfillment Center in Pittston Township located in Luzerne County and Northpoint Development, Hudson's Bay Company in Pottsville located in Schuylkill County, were honored with Area Development's 2017 Silver Shovel Awards.


AMAZON
Pittston Townships Amazon Fulfillment Center came in as the states 3rd Top Project and one of many Amazon Fulfillment Centers, Large Job-Creating Projects of the Year in E-commerce, with 850 employees.

In November of 2016, Amazon moved into a 399,500-square-foot building constructed by Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services at 250 Enterprise Way, the fifth largest building in the park. Amazon is going to hire 350 hard-working new employees from Northeastern Pennsylvania.

HUDSON'S BAY CO.
Pottsville's Northpoint Development, Hudson's Bay Co. came in as the states 6th Top Project with 207 employees and $50 Million dollar investment in the project.

In April of 2016, Hudson's Bay Company, parent of Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor and Saks OFF 5TH, announced they will establish a new facility built by Northpoint Development in Highridge Business Park, Schuylkill County. The move will result in 207 new, full-time jobs.
