A Missouri developer intends to build a 1-million-square-foot warehouse in the Valley View Business Park.
Kansas City-based NorthPoint Development on Monday finalized the purchase of 70.22 acres in the business park from the Scranton-Lackawanna Industrial Building Co., the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce's development arm.
NorthPoint will construct a “speculative distribution facility” on the land, meaning it will build the warehouse there and seek tenants to use it, chamber economic development specialist Bruce Reddock said.
Reddock would not disclose the value of the land deal, but said NorthPoint's investment underscores the “value of our region.”
NorthPoint, which is active in 16 states, has invested heavily in Luzerne County. The developer brought huge warehouses for Chewy, Adidas and Patagonia to a 172-acre parcel in Hanover Twp. It also announced recently that True Value Co. and Spreetail, a national e-commerce company, will occupy two large warehouses it built in Nanticoke and Hanover Twp., near Luzerne County Community College.
