Avoca, PA -
Organizers of the 2017 Northeastern Pennsylvania Air Show at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport say the event exceeded their expectations. Airport officials say the good weather helped to fuel a large turnout.
When airport leaders announced the air show was coming back after a 17 year absence, they said their goal was to basically break even. Initially hoping for roughly 15,000 people to show up, crews say most of the feedback they have received has been positive.
“We couldn't ask for anything better,” Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport Director Carl Beardsley Jr. said. “The weather cooperated with us, we had a wonderful performance from each of the performers and there were so many smiles in the crowd.”
"Saturday was a solid crowd. Sunday was beyond belief!" airport executive director Carl Beardsley said.
At this point, officials aren't sure if there will be an air show in 2018 or if they might wait a couple years.
Airport managers say people from all across the country came in for the air show.
They say that translated into economic activity and a lot of business.
"I think it was a huge success. I think it's a hallmark event of our community. We were happy to have it and we look forward to the next one!"
Lackawanna County commissioner Pat O'Malley said.
