11.05.2013

Penn's Northeast welcomed Ronald (Ron) Maloney as the organization's new President effective Nov. 4th. Mr. Maloney replaces Penny Cannella, who will be retiring from the regional economic development marketing organization after sixteen years.

Mr. Maloney has a strong background in regional economic development. For eight years Ron was a Vice President for the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, Southwest Pennsylvania's 10-county regional economic development group where he had various responsibilities including prospect development, targeted lead generation, global marketing and trade and export assistance. Most recently Ron worked in Columbus, MS where he served as Vice President of Economic Development for Clay County, with the 3-county Golden Triangle Development LINK. In that position he guided the development of marketing and advertising materials, organized numerous prospect tours and was a key member of the team that won Yokohama Tire Corporation's May 2013 decision to build a new $1.2 billion tire plant and create 2,000 new jobs.

Prior to his position in MS, he served as Executive Vice President/and VP of Recruitment and International for the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County, FL where he directed programs that included recruitment, entrepreneurship, international trade and business assistance.

According to Penn's Northeast Board Chairman, John Cognetti, “I am confident that Mr. Maloney is adept at analyzing economic development opportunities, businesses, industries and global markets, along with assessing the needs of companies and delivering solutions. He is a well-rounded economic development professional with the ability and experience to execute the strategic plan of Penn's Northeast.”

Mr. Maloney holds a Masters Degree from Duquesne University and a Bachelors Degree from Brigham Young University. He is a Pittsburgh native and moves back to Pennsylvania with his wife and family.
According to Maloney, “I am grateful for the trust and confidence of the board, the staff and our regional economic development partners I see Penn's Northeast as a catalyst for unprecedented economic growth through increased business investment and the generation of unique and targeted leads. Critical to my personal success is gaining input and perspective from local business executives, county and city partners, neighboring regional representatives and elected officials. I look forward to meeting and working with everyone.”

Penn's Northeast's mission is to serve as the regional business and economic marketing organization that attracts business investments and jobs by actively promoting the geographic and demographic advantages of northeastern Pennsylvania.
