PNE Members Assist with Hurricane Relief Efforts

09.12.2017

Penn's Northeast members - PPL Electric Utilities and UGI Utilities - sent management teams, lineworkers and support personnel, such as tree employees and contractors to assist with Hurricane Irma storm restoration activities. More than 6.5 million people and businesses in the state were without power on Monday.

In addition, PPL is using several of its drones in Florida to help assess damage and is also taking its customer assistance van to help keep residents informed.

The Irma relief efforts are a result of participation in nationwide mutual assistance organizations, in which utility companies assist each other in times of natural disasters and crisis situations. Both companies are retaining enough personnel to be able to support ongoing operations here in Pennsylvania and to respond to any issues locally.
