The Pocono Mountains recently welcomed another business to Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Summit Aerospace, a specialist in aerospace mechanics opened their newest location in November 2014. The Mount Pocono location provides 16,200 square feet to the company. Summit Aerospace specializes in making super-alloys for jet and helicopter engine components.
“We are so pleased to welcome Summit Aerospace to our business park and our community. They are hiring highly skilled people and we hope to assist them as they continue to grow,” commented Chuck Leonard, PMEDC Executive Director.
Summit is a part of Plaintree Systems Inc., a company with product lines consisting of Specialty Structures and Electronics. Plaintree acquired Summit Aerospace in 2013. After acquiring the company, the group saw potential in the aerospace industry. The Northeastern Pennsylvania opening allows Summit Aerospace to double in size and increase capacity. David Watson, president of Plaintree Systems Inc., noted the new business location will make a positive impact on both his company and the local economy. “ is not too far from the prime aerospace markets,” he said at Summit Aerospace's grand opening event. He also explained the company plans to increase workforce in the near future. The company expects to increase its workforce by at least 50% as a result.
Summit Aerospace's Remo Sicoli expects the facility will see a 25% increase in machinist jobs at the facility. He also noted past co-op relationships with Monroe Career and Technical Institute that led to positions for students after graduation that participated in the hands-on experiences.
The Pocono Mountains Economic Development Corporation worked with Summit Aerospace to secure a $720,000 loan from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority. The loan funds assisted in buying and renovating the new building.
