Scranton Welcomes Healthcare Technology Startup

07.23.2016

Health care technology startup Signallamp Health could have opened anywhere, but chose Scranton, Mayor Bill Courtright said Friday during a ribbon cutting.

Launched in late 2015 by Drew Kearney and Andy Goldberg, Signallamp provides chronic care management services to Medicare recipients via telephone. Calls made by registered nurses complement primary physician services through check-ins, medication reviews and answering questions.

The firm has created 15 jobs and plans to create a total of 69 full-time jobs within three years.

The company also has added a product for transitional care management and a proprietary information technology platform.

The health care economic model for how doctors are paid is undergoing a significant shift and will rely on their ability to control costs and improve patient outcomes, said Mr. Kearney, who also is CEO.

“Signallamp partners with providers to bring additional clinical capacity that enables physicians to address the needs of a larger number of patients outside the office setting,” Mr. Kearney said. “This collaborative effort results in greater patient involvement in their own health care, better clinical outcomes, increased patient satisfaction and higher provider revenue.”

“Signallamp is exactly what we're looking for.”
-Robert Durkin, Scranton Chamber President

Chamber President Robert Durkin said the startup is a testament to the growing health care base of Scranton. Early-stage, incremental funding assistance from the state to the firm is the kind of investment that helps revitalize a city like Scranton, as well as the state, said state Sen. John Blake, D-22, Archbald, and Sheri Collins, deputy secretary of technology and innovation in the Department of Community and Economic Development.

Signallamp occupies a 14,000-square-foot office space in the Bank Towers building on Spruce Street in downtown Scranton. The company name pays homage to the area's railroad past that included signal lamps as visual communication tools.
