The Scranton Chamber Reacquires Former TMG Health Site

Jessup, Lackawanna County, PA - The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce looked to the past as the organization eyes future development.

The chamber, through its business development subsidiary, the Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Company (SLIBCO), reacquired 38.39 acres encompassing lots 25 and 26 within the Valley View Business Park in Jessup for $2.85 million, said Bob Durkin, president of the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce.

He said plans to market the land include companies in five targeted industry sectors:

■ Advanced manufacturing,

■ Bio and life sciences,

■ Energy,

■ Technology,

■ Food and beverage.

The approximately 150,000-square-foot former TMG Health/Cognizant building, a $20 million project, opened inside the Valley View Business Park in July 2012. Crews demolished the building late last year

Chamber officials estimate the new building will be approximately 250,000 square feet – a size in line with current industry trends.

John Augustine, president and CEO of Penn’s Northeast, a regional economic development agency, has high hopes about the potential to attract a quality company to the Jessup location.

“That site is in a great location with great visibility,” he said. “It checks all the boxes. First and foremost, it’s flat and ready to go and there are not a lot of those sites available right now in northeastern PA.”

Augustine feels an influx of activity around the Jessup site bodes well for the region.

“We really see a tremendous amount of growth that is going to be happening along that corridor with land being opened up on both sides of the highway for development,” he said. “I think you’re going to see more and more companies moving to that area and I think it puts the chamber in a great spot to go after those targeted industries that we as a region are looking to bring here.”
