Luzerne, PA -
Natural gas powers more than just your home's heating and cooling appliances.
Zapp's Potato Chips, with assistance from Penn's Northeast member UGI, recently expanded its manufacturing operations in Luzerne County, increasing production capacity by 20 percent.
A division of Utz Quality Foods, Zapp's plant in the Hanover Industrial Estates opened in 2010 to accommodate a growing market in the northeastern United States.
“This was an ideal location, and we had convenient access to gas, electric and water,” Plant Manager Barry Wiggins said. “UGI has been awesome to worth with. They upgraded our meter and regulator and worked with us to change our contract.”
The Zapp's expansion is just one of several projects involving UGI in the Hanover Industrial Estates. UGI previously worked with Nardone Bros. as the company expanded its pizza operation, and with Chewy.com, which is building a new distribution center for pet supplies.
