A new company opening in West Pittston plans to create jobs and offer products to save consumers money.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Friday beginning at 11 a.m. for HSI, Home Stations Installations, which will install digital television converter boxes and high-tech antennas. Its new corporate headquarters will be located at 508 Delaware Ave. above the business Igourmet.
HSI executive director Colleen Daly said the goal is to hire 50 to 100 people in the West Pittston call center to handle sales calls nationwide and delegate work to thousands of technicians. Up to 10,000 people could be hired to install digital television converter boxes and antennas nationwide, she said. When technicians mount antennas and hook up converter boxes, consumers can receive digital channels for free, she said.
“We're from the area and we felt it would be nice to be able to create jobs in the local area. We see a need for it,” said Daly, a Pittston resident. “We also saw a need that we thought needed to be filled in helping consumers with digital conversion. Being able to create jobs in this tough economy is nice and we are helping people save money by taking away a monthly bill. It's very exciting.”
West Pittston Mayor Bill Goldsworthy is pleased that a new company is creating jobs. He will participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday.
“Any time you bring jobs to a community, it's good news,” Goldsworthy said. “With the economy the way it is, it's great to see a new company coming into our area that will benefit not only our community, but residents in the entire area in general.”
